OUR WORSHIP

What To Expect When You Visit Us

Singing: We will sing several songs and hymns together, led by one or more song leaders. These will be sung a capella (without the accompaniment of musical instruments). We sing in this manner because it follows the pattern of the first century church and this is the only kind of music authorized in the New Testament for worship. Ephesians 5:19 "speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord"

Praying: The only way man can talk to God is by prayer. The Bible states that the early christians were commanded to pray everywhere (I Tim 2:8), without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:17) and in every situation (Acts 12:5; 16:25; Romans 8:26). The denominational practice that permits a woman to lead prayers in the church (where both men and women are present) is against the command of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 14:34; I Timothy 2:8).

Bible Study: It is God's will that christians should study His written word so that they would not go away from the doctrines of Christ (II John 9). We engage in Bible study, primarily through preaching of the Word, but also through Bible reading and direct teaching. 2nd Timothy 4:1–2 "I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching." Our worship service is considered traditional for churches of Christ. It is not contemporary or instrumental. We strive to worship God in Spirit and Truth. John 4:24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

Giving: Collection of the saints is an act of worship. By this collection of their individual means, the early christians supported their ordained missions. We give a donation for the work of the church each first day of the week, realizing that God has richly blessed each of us. The church supports many good works that require financial support. Paul commanded that it should be done on the first day of every week (I Corinthians 16:1-2). There was no tithing, class fee, seed faith box or New Year offering in the original church. They gave as they were prospered and purposed in their hearts.

Lord's Supper: We partake of the Lord’s Supper each Sunday, following the pattern of the first century church. Acts 20:7 "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight." In partaking of the Lord’s Supper we remember the Lord’s death until He comes again. 1st Corinthians 11:23–26 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
